Friends of St Paul’s
Since 1874 St. Paul’s Church has been a beautiful landmark on the Wood Green Road Wednesbury.
For many people who pass by, it conjures happy memories of special occasions, like baptisms and weddings. For others, it brings back memories of the celebration of a loved one’s life at a funeral, or of the care and attention given at a time of sickness or bereavement.
• Perhaps you are one of the many residents who, while not a regular worshipper at church, think of St Paul’s as your church.
• Maybe that you no longer live in the area or have even moved overseas, but you were married or were baptised at St Paul’s and the church holds fond memories for you.
• Maybe you just like to drop in at Christmas for the Carol Service or Midnight Mass.
• Maybe you just like to sit in the quiet and say your prayers, or attend a healing service on the first Friday of each month.
You want to be certain the church will be there for the future so that the younger members of your family and future generations can come for their special occasions too.
St Paul’s is a lively church with a growing congregation, but even so, the cost of running such a large and historic Grade II listed building is becoming quite burdensome. In addition, we have just discovered the need for over £150,000 worth of repair work to keep the building from leaking and crumbling and to upgrade the ancient heating system. We have been turned down in our bid for a Heritage Lottery grant, as funds are short at the moment. That’s the reason for this appeal to you. Will you consider becoming a Friend of St Paul’s?
If we were sure of a regular income it would mean we could restore the ancient fabric and concentrate on reaching out to those in our community who most need our care.
So please do give it some thought and join today.
As a friend of St Paul’s, you’ll receive a regular (3 times a year) newsletter and be invited to a twice a year to a special ‘Friends’ event - at Christmastime and in the summer.
JUST A LITTLE HELP FROM EVERYONE WOULD GO A LONG WAY....
