St Paul’s Roof Repairs

Work has started in the past couple of weeks to repair the roof of St Paul’s church. The roof which has been leaking water around the guttering for some time is being repaired and the problems with loose roof tiles is being addressed. The work is being undertaken during a time when several weddings are scheduled to take place but the impact on the weddings  is being kept to a minimum by the builders who are removing the scaffolding as much as possible we aplogise to anyone who may be inconvenienced by the work but the work is essential to minimise the damage caused by the ingress of water.

Bonus Ball Fundraiser

In March 2005, to raise money for new notice boards at St Paul’s & St. Luke’s a fundraiser based around the Bonus Ball in the main Saturday night National Lottery draw was devised; the basis is that folks have an allocated numbered ball in the draw and pay £1.00 each per week to be included; with there being 49 numbered balls this equates to £49.00; following the draw, the person who’s ball is drawn out receives £25.00 and the remaining £24.00 goes to church funds. The notice boards were duly purchased and installed but as a fundraiser this proved to be very popular and has continued ever since, to date raising £6,600 for church funds.
For varying reasons a few of these numbers are now available so if you would be interested in taking part, or having an additional number if you already take part, please have a word with Chris Sprules.

Samaritan’s Purse

Audrey and Colin Benbow from St Paul’s will be leading us in a new venture to help underprivileged children in Third World coutries get a gift at Christmas. Called Operation Christmas Child, the scheme asks churchgoers to cover a shoe box with Christmas paper and then to fill it with gifts. A leaflet is issued explaining what gifts are suitable and acceptable. £2.50 is given with each box to cover transport costs for the gifts which are then collected locally and distributed.
It’s hard for us here to imagine what those few gifts mean to children who never normally receive a present.. What a lovely way to show the love of Jesus Christ . A presentation will be done in church in July and the boxes collected at the end of November.
