Baptisms

Baptism is a service of Christian initiation; and while the Church of England traditionally offers baptism to infants there is no age requirement on baptism – it is also available to all people, regardless of their age, so long as they have not been baptised previously. In a service of baptism for babies and children, the parents and godparents make a commitment to pray for the child and to draw him or her in the community of faith; to walk with them in the way of Christ; and to help them to take their place within the life and worship of Christ’s Church. In adult baptism, the candidates make the promises for themselves.

Services with Baptisms take place at both St Paul's and St Luke's.

Baptisms at St Paul's take place usually on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of each month at 3:00pm.

Baptisms at St Luke's usually are within the normal Sunday Morning Service at 9:30 am.

Baptism enquiries at either church can be made at St Paul's church at 7:00 pm each Thursday evening.

Memorial Service and Memorial Books

Every two months at St Paul's we hold a memorial service on Sunday evening at 6pm. This is specially for those who have had a recent bereavement to come and give thanks for the life of their loved one.

In the service, families can light a candle as special prayers are said and loved ones' names are read out. People who come say they find the service comforting and uplifting.

In St. Paul's and St. Luke's there are memorial books in which we can write the name of your loved one, the book will be open at the anniversary of their death.

Once a year, at All Souls, tide at the beginning of November, we hold a special service in which we read out the names of all those we love but see no longer. We remember them and that they are safe in God's keeping, and we give thanks for good times past and look forward to being reunited with them in God's future.

The dates for all these services are published in our newsletter or on our Calendar page of this website.

The vicar is always able to arrange visits to those having difficulty facing bereavement and who need talk with someone. Please ring 0121 556 0687 for further details.
